NGO hailed for its peace project in Thyolo District
Thyolo District principal gender officer Gerald Zgambo has expressed satisfaction with a peace-building project for bringing peace and stability in communities.
He said this on Friday during a training facilitated by Thyolo District Peace and Unity Committee with support from Chipembere Community Development Organisation where women, youths, traditional leaders and other stakeholders underwent a refresher course on peace and conflict resolution.

“We thank the Chipembere Community Development Organisation for supporting the peace-building initiative as it has reduced conflicts in communities,” said Zgambo.
Thyolo District Peace and Unity Committee chairperson Martin Kavalo said the project has strengthened coexistence in communities.
“The project has equipped community members with skills to manage conflicts. As the project is phasing out, we pledge to sustain the gains,” he said.
Chipembere Community Development Organisation executive director Dalitso Chiwayula said the refresher training sought to share conflict resolution skills with community members.
“There are many cases in Thyolo such as land and family issues that always generate conflict. So, the training will give them skills to resolve conflict before it escalates,” he said.
Chiwayula said through the project they have resolved 203 disputes in the district.
A participant Chisomo Mphalasa from Maganiza Youth Club said the training was an eye-opener as they are advocating for peace.
“We will be able to follow up and resolve disputes with transparency,” she said.
The two-year Progressive Peace Building and Conflict Prevention project was funded by the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund through UN Women in the district.
